Get Involved and Make a Difference in Our Community!

Our OK outdoor education program is designed to connect students, families, and the community with nature, sustainability, and experiential learning. There are numerous ways to get involved, each offering unique benefits for both participants and the environment. Explore the opportunities below and see how you can make an impact!

OK Farm as an Outdoor Classroom

Our OK Children's Farm is not just a place to grow food—it's an outdoor classroom where students engage in hands-on learning about agriculture, biology, and environmental stewardship. Students develop a deeper understanding of where their food comes from, gain practical gardening skills, and learn about sustainability. This interactive experience fosters a love for nature and encourages curiosity about the natural world. Come volunteer on the farm with your child's classroom!

Chicken Care on Weekends and Holiday Breaks

Help care for our beloved chickens--all hatched by first grade students and teachers--by volunteering on weekends and during holiday breaks. Families can sign up to feed, water, and check on the chickens, ensuring they stay healthy and happy. This is a wonderful way to introduce children to animal care and responsibility. It also provides a unique opportunity to bond as a family while contributing to the well-being of our farm animals.

Farm Community Days

Join us for a monthly Farm Community Day to help maintain and beautify the OK Children's Farm. Activities include planting, weeding, harvesting, and general farm upkeep. This is a fantastic way to meet other families, learn new gardening skills, and contribute to the ongoing success of our farm. Your efforts help create a vibrant, thriving outdoor space for students and the community to enjoy.

Join us one Saturday per month from 9-11am:

Sept.7 | Oct. 5 | Nov. 2 | Dec. 7 | Jan. 11 | Feb. 1 | Mar. 1 | Apr. 12 | May 3 | June 7

Canyon Community Days

Join us for monthly Canyon Clean-Up Days where we partner with SD Botanic Garden scientists, OK families, and neighbors who want to support this beautiful land. Participants help preserve and restore the natural beauty of our canyon and the Moonlight Beach watershed by removing invasive plants, litter, and other debris, while protecting wildlife habitats and keeping our land clean. It's a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while making a positive environmental impact.

Join us one Saturday per month from 10-12pm:

Aug. 17 | Sept. 21 | Oct. 19 | Nov. 16 | Dec. 14 | Jan. 25 | Feb. 22 | Mar. 15 | Apr. 19 | May 17 | June 21

Sponsor a Farm Bed to Grow Your Own Food

Families and community members can sponsor a farm bed at the Children's Farm for $75 annually. Grow your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs while contributing to the farm's overall mission. Experience the joy of growing your own food, learning about sustainable agriculture, and enjoying fresh, homegrown produce. Sponsoring a farm bed also supports the farm’s educational programs.

Outdoor Education Clubs for Students

Students can join the following outdoor education clubs during lunchtime at school. These clubs provide a chance for students to get hands-on experience in gardening, animal care, and environmental conservation. Our clubs offer students a fun and engaging way to spend their lunch break while learning important life skills promoting teamwork, responsibility, and a deeper connection to the great outdoors.
